The Store is open for only one more week and a half.  Stop by soon or miss it!  www.storeforamonth.com.

I also helped put together a group show of seven Portland artists in Astoria OR which opens on July 11.  Myself, Timothy Scott Dalbow, Kristan Kennedy, Cynthia Lahti, Blair Saxon-Hill, David Rosenak and Storm Tharp.  There will be a group show of seven Astoria artists in August at 12×16 Gallery.  It’s an exchange thang.

Store for a Month is keeping me busy!  Check it out at www.storeforamonth.com.  The first day of regular Store hours is June 3, with an opening party on First Friday from 6-10pm . Hope to see you.

The Store for a Month is a go for June and will be located at 1216 SE Division, Portland, Oregon.  Come visit us June 3-28, 2009!  The participating artists count is now over 60.

Well, finally decided to go for the “Store for a Month” idea that I’ve been thinking about for far too long.  Sent out an email yesterday to PDX artists (and a few from around the US) and the response has been amazing – people seem excited and up for the challenge.  Look for the Store to pop up somewhere in Portland in June, if all goes well.  Art and products by 30+ (really great) artists.  I’ll also set up a temporary studio there and make work for the month while manning the shop.

For some reason I’ve started to make some more sculptural pieces and objects.  These likely may be combined with paintings and signs or works on paper and affixed to an armature or perhaps even use scaffolding as the base structure.  Also made a crazy sculpture from a wire drying rack that looks partly like a grocery cart and partly like an old rolling hospital chair/wheelchair.  Hmmm….

Architecture in Nature – a new series?

3.10.09

Heading to Seattle this weekend to research some spaces for a show in 2009 or 2010, so if you know some people I should meet or places I should check out, send me an email.  Thanks!

Been thinking about books more lately, and the “wall of paper” is progressing with paint and collage, pages are being flipped and the back sides are getting painted.  The process will take about 2 more weeks to finish, letting the paint dry and finishing both sides.  Then some “pages” will be combined with others by attaching smaller pages to the larger ones with brads, wire or grommets.  Also preparing some canvas pad sheets to make a book of canvas sheets that are 16″ x 20″ so that when you open the book it will be 40″ wide.  If that works out well it’s onto a larger book, maybe 2 feet x 3 feet (opens to 6 feet wide).

I like the crunchy and the crumpled.  I am looking forward to working in that way a bit more currently (see Walls of Paper photos on the “Studio Views” page).  My mixed-media/collage work for the past two shows was rather ordered and I have been enjoying slinging the paint a little more lately.
